Campaign For Democratic and Workers Rights (CDWR) has urged workers in aviation sector to unite and join forces to compel the Federal Government to end planned concession and privatization of the country’s four major airports.
Statement by the group’s publicity secretary, Chinedu Bosah argued that privatization of the major airports in the country would not benefit workers and the masses. According to the statement, ‘’The CDWR declares solidarity with the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association Of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and National Union Of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) in their campaign against the planned concession and is ready to join airport workers to resist this IMF/World Bank inspired agenda to sell off the country’s airports as they are doing with other national assets.
”CDWR is demanding that Buhari-led government should end the plan to privatize/concession the airports as only massive investment and democratic management (elected representative of workers, airports users and government) will reposition, improve and efficiently manage the airports.
”CDWR call on Air transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and National UNION of Airports Employees (NUATE) to resist the planned concessioning and privatization of airports. The unions should mobilise workers and trade unions affiliated to the trade union centres as well as public supports for a sustained mass action and strikes to compel government not only to end the planned concession/privatization but also to massively invest in the airports with the aim to reposition them.
