The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), has declared that misuse of loans and donations
received by Oyo State government after the 2011 flood that ravaged some parts of Ibadan led to the recent flood in theState.

The party said it was unfortunate that misuse of loans and relief material secured to construct damaged roads, bridges and dredging of rivers since 2011 flood caused another havoc that ravaged some parts of the ancient city last Tuesday.

PDP in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ismaila Asipa, while sympathizing with the victims, observed that though, “huge amount of money were graciously donated and secured by the government after the 2011 flood, but nothing can be shown for the hugh amount of money secured”.

He said “I would like to recall the flooding of some years past, at the inception of the Ajimobi APC led
administration in Oyo state, when flood also devastated almost all standing structures within Oyo state. “I remember that huge cash and relief materials were graciously donated to the government. The government also secured loans to open up blocked drainages and construct new bridges.

“To what extent and effect was the loans engaged. It was as if the Ajimobi led APC administration signed a pact with Yemoja, the river goddess. And the breaching of the Yemoja pact is the incessant flood in the state.

It is time for the people of Oyo state, irrespective of religion, to stand up in prayers and call unto our Creator. May we never live to witness such flood disaster again”. Asipa while appealing to journalists in the state to strike balance in their reportage noted that “you should always stand up to the defense of the masses, especially the emancipated
workers and pensioners who are being denied their salaries.”

He used the opportunity to sympathize with those who were affected during the recent flood that raved some parts of
Ibadan, the state capital.
