Local rice production in Nigeria has now achieved 15 million metric tons every year, the administration has guaranteed.
It said the improvement implies the nation will now be sparing about N300 billion it used to spend yearly on importation of the produce.
The Director of Agriculture at the Kano office of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Muhammad Adamu, made the claim on Tuesday while initiating the Rice Millers Association of Nigeria, (RIMAN) in the state.
He said in Kano alone, 1.2 million metric huge amounts of rice was delivered in 2016.
He said with the huge increment in local productions and the endeavors to make the assortment subjective and more alluring to Nigerians, the nation hopes to start sending out rice to West African nations by 2018/2019.
